Aguas del Suroeste, commercially known as Aguas Los Riscos, has presented its 2024 Water Footprint Report, developed in accordance with UNE-EN ISO 14046:2014, the international standard that establishes the principles and guidelines for assessing the environmental impact of water use throughout the life cycle. At IK Ingeniería, together with INCYMA, we provided technical support in the calculation of the Water Footprint, assisting in the analysis and identification of improvements in water resource management.
Both direct and indirect water uses within the organisation’s value chain have been assessed, enabling the identification of associated impacts and the definition of improvement plans. The analysis focused on the production activities of Los Riscos, identifying critical points in water consumption and proposing actions aimed at minimising environmental impacts.
The report shows a reduction in the aggregated water footprint compared to both the baseline year and the previous year. In 2024, electricity consumption was also reduced, and hazardous waste management improved. In addition, most environmental impacts decreased due to lower water extraction, reduced use of auxiliary materials, lower diesel consumption, and fewer transports across the value chain.
The document, verified by experts, confirms that the company is advancing with concrete measures to protect water resources and respond to the expectations of its customers and the community. After having calculated and verified its Water Footprint in 2022 and 2023, Los Riscos demonstrates a positive evolution and continuous improvement in its water performance, consolidating Aguas del Suroeste as a regional benchmark in sustainable water management.
