Environmental Product Declaration of the energy generated at the Odal wind farm: environmental transparency in renewable generation

The electricity generated at the Odal wind farm in Norway now has a certified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), developed in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

This declaration provides a detailed assessment of the environmental impacts associated with the generation of 1 kWh net of electricity using SG 5.0-145 wind turbines, operating under IEC II wind conditions and supplying energy to the Norwegian electricity grid at 66/132 kV.

At IK Ingeniería, we have supported the companies throughout the entire process, from the collection of life cycle inventory data for the manufacture of the turbines and the preparation of the infrastructure and wind farm using a life cycle approach, analysing the impact from raw material extraction through to factory output, including use, maintenance and end-of-life stages. We have also accompanied the company during the verification audit and the entire certification process.

The work has been carried out in accordance with the requirements of PCR 2007:08 – Electricity, steam, and hot water generation & distribution (version 5.0.1), as well as the principles of ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14025, ensuring a rigorous and verifiable assessment.

Beyond regulatory compliance, this EPD contributes to strengthening environmental transparency in the renewable energy sector, providing reliable information on the environmental benefits and challenges of wind power generation under real operating conditions.
