IK Ingeniería supports Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in the EPD of electricity generated by an offshore wind farm

IK Ingeniería supports Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in the development of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) corresponding to the electricity generated by an offshore wind farm equipped with SG 15-236 wind turbines. The installation, located in a European environment and designed to operate under strong wind conditions (IEC class I), reinforces the sector’s commitment to environmental transparency and renewable energy generation with verifiable sustainability criteria.

This declaration provides a detailed assessment of the environmental impacts associated with the generation of 1 kWh net of electricity using SG 15-236 wind turbines, operating under IEC class I wind conditions and supplying electricity to the European grid via a 320 kV export cable.

At IK Ingeniería, we have collaborated in the process of collecting life cycle inventory data associated with the manufacture of the turbines and the preparation of the infrastructure and wind farm using a life cycle approach, analysing the impacts from raw material extraction to end of life, including use, maintenance and final disposal phases. We have also supported the company throughout the verification audit and the entire certification process.

The work has been carried out in accordance with the requirements of PCR 2007:08 – Electricity, steam, and hot water generation & distribution (version 5.0.1), as well as the principles of ISO 14025, ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, ensuring a rigorous and verifiable assessment.

The declaration has already been published and can be consulted here.
