IK Ingeniería supports VSL in the publication of four EPDs for its post-tensioning and stay systems

VSL, one of the two civil engineering subsidiaries of Bouygues Construction—a leading group in the sector with a presence in more than 60 countries and over 32,400 employees worldwide—has recently published four Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for different families of its post-tensioning systems.

The published EPDs rigorously and transparently reflect the environmental profile of four systems, two for monostrand post-tensioning and two for stay systems, assessed in accordance with ISO 14025:2006 and EN 15804. Post-tensioning is a technique that allows internal forces in concrete structures to be actively controlled, reducing deflections, thicknesses and the amount of reinforcement required, while also facilitating construction with precast elements and the use of high-strength steel.

The study has been carried out in accordance with the requirements of EN 15804:2012+A2:2019/AC:2021 and the PCR 2019:14 Construction Products (version 1.3.4) of the International EPD System, and includes life cycle stages A1, A2, A3, C1, C2, C3, C4 and D.

The declared units are as follows:

  • PT-PLUS 22 Duct for post-tensioning systems
  • Anchorage type S 6-1 Standard and S 6-1 Plus
  • Coloured Stay Pipe for Stay Cable Systems
  • White Stay Pipe for Stay Cable Systems

At IK Ingeniería, we have supported VSL throughout the entire process, from the collection and analysis of life cycle inventory data to the preparation of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), as well as providing technical assistance during the verification and certification audit.

The Environmental Product Declarations have already been published and are available for consultation on the official International EPD System website.
