Irizar e-mobility has taken a new step in its commitment to clean mobility through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for three of its most advanced electric bus models: the Irizar ie Tram Efficient 18m and the Irizar ie bus Efficient 18m (both equipped with GEN3 batteries), and the Irizar ie bus Efficient 12m Nano model (with FLP batteries).
The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies carried out have made it possible to quantify the environmental impacts associated with all stages of the vehicles’ life cycle, from raw material extraction and production, component manufacturing and bus assembly, through to use, maintenance and end of life. This analysis has enabled the identification of key environmental impact hotspots and the assessment of the overall environmental performance of the models, providing a solid technical basis for the continuous improvement of electric vehicle design and manufacturing.
As a result of the study, the corresponding Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have been developed, verified and certified in accordance with the Product Category Rules of the International EPD System “PCR 2016-04 Public and private buses and coaches”. These declarations provide transparent, objective and comparable information on the environmental performance of the vehicles. They enable transport operators, public authorities and other stakeholders in the sector to make informed decisions based on verified environmental data.
At IK Ingeniería, we have supported the company throughout the entire process: from data collection and life cycle modelling to the preparation of technical documentation and assistance during the independent verification required for the publication of the Environmental Product Declarations.
The development of the LCA and EPDs represents a key tool for advancing towards more sustainable mobility systems and for enabling environmental criteria-based decision-making in the public transport sector. With this project, Irizar e-mobility reinforces its commitment to innovation and sustainability, providing transparency on the environmental impact of its electric transport solutions.
