At IK Ingeniería, we continue moving forward alongside companies committed to sustainability. A clear example is the Niessen factory, a brand of the ABB group, which for several years has trusted our team to carry out Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) under the international PEP Ecopassport standard.
Niessen, one of ABB’s reference factories in Spain, is part of the Electrification business unit and specializes in the design and manufacture of electrical mechanisms, installation solutions for residential and commercial buildings, and home automation products that promote energy efficiency. The company operates a production plant located in Oiartzun (Gipuzkoa), from which it develops innovative solutions for both residential and commercial markets.
The studies carried out follow the guidelines of the PEP Ecopassport programme, including Product Category Rules (PCR-ed4-EN-2021 09 06) and Specific Rules for electrical switchgear equipment (PSR-0005-ed2-EN-2016 03 29), as well as other relevant international standards such as ISO 14040, ISO 14044, ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
The reports generated, valid for 5 years, not only enable the transparent communication of the environmental impact of products, but also help identify potential improvements in internal processes. In addition, they reinforce the commitment of ABB and Niessen to the continuous improvement of their Environmental Management System, in line with ISO 14001:2015.
The Environmental Product Declarations carried out to date can already be consulted through the official platform of the PEP EcoPassport programme.
